Was Miley Cyrus’ Song ‘We Can’t Stop’ Originally for Rihanna?
The song of the summer, Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop,” was actually written for a different diva.
According to producer Mike Will Made It, the plan for the song was that it would be featured on Rihanna’s Unapologetic album. Instead, she fell in love with “Pour It Up,” the fourth single on the album, leaving no space for “We Can’t Stop.” Still, Unapologetic debuted at No.1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 last November.
The song has meant more to Miley as “We Can’t Stop” marks a comeback for the 20-year-old singer. The single should find itself on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart this week after its June 3 premiere on On Air With Ryan Seacrest.
“We went in, she nailed the record, and she did it with her swag,” Mike explains to MTV about Miley. “So it sounds totally different than from what we originally tried to come up with.”
